DAF Trucks’ New LF makes its UK show debut at Freight in the City at Alexandra Palace in November as the market-leader presents a dedicated ‘City’ specification model designed explicitly for city and urban distribution operations. The chassis is part of a wider New LF range of lightweights (from 7.5- to 18-tonne rigids and the LF urban tractor) which in turn complete the full ‘New’ DAF Trucks range for 2017 including New CF and New XF rigids, tractors and multi-axle chassis.
The 7.5-tonne Freight in the City exhibit is powered by an all-new PACCAR PX-4, 3.8-litre 170bhp engine, developing 600 Nm of torque. A lower power rating from the same 3.8-litre block is also available at 150bhp, developing 500 Nm. The new PACCAR PX-4 – now the smallest engine in the New DAF range – is optimised for urban operation A five-speed manual gearbox and super-tight turning circle combine with the PACCAR PX-4 to provide nimble driving characteristics and an overall ‘distribution’ package ideally suited to start-stop vocational applications.
Completing its urban specification, and offering a one-stop-shop acquisition package for operators, are factory designed, assembled and fitted box- and curtain-side body options. The New LF, including its factory body options (and alongside its New CF and XF stablemates for the UK) is manufactured at the Leyland Trucks assembly plant in Lancashire.
All models in the New LF range are now also available with a factory-fitted passenger lower window to enhance near-side visibility for the driver and to better protect vulnerable road users. The passenger door assembly comes complete with an electrically operated sliding upper window.
“With the carrying capacity of a 7.5-tonner, the New LF ‘City’ boasts the handling qualities of a much smaller LCV,” said DAF Trucks Marketing Manager, Phil Moon. “A compact day-cab, lightweight and frugal engine, an uncomplicated five-speed manual transmission and a best-in-class turning circle offers customers a truly dedicated urban specification.
“We offer a wide range of chassis for urban operations at various weights and axle configurations,” he said, “and including DAF Silent Mode on selected LF, CF and XF models to enable low-noise operation primarily associated with night time deliveries.”
