Fleets can now access the widest ever range of ready-bodied IVECO trucks from dealer forecourts nationwide, following investment by IVECO of more than £11.5 million in growing the DriveAway line-up beyond the traditional 3.5 and 7.5 tonne models.
DriveAway is designed to help operators get new vehicles on the road almost immediately, and the expansion sees IVECO offer bodies for everything from general haulage and temperature controlled distribution, to construction, demolition and waste. Available truck body types now include boxes, curtains, dropsides, reefers, skip loaders, hook loaders, tippers, tipper grabs and sweepers – on vehicles plated at up to 32-tonnes.
As well as investing in a fleet of bodied vehicles which are available throughout the dealer network, IVECO has committed to keeping new chassis at key bodybuilding partners to enable sold units to be replenished quickly.
Stuart Webster, IVECO UK & ROI Business Director, says: “We are expanding the IVECO DriveAway range to ensure we can offer fleets shorter delivery times, coupled with lower costs and higher residual values. Our launch models have been specifically chosen to suit sectors where new assets can often be required at short notice, such as when a new contract comes in and the work starts almost immediately.
“With DriveAway, firms need only liaise with their local dealer, instead of co-ordinating separately with bodybuilders and ancillary equipment providers. New vehicles can be purchased on one invoice and often driven away or delivered on the same day. Plus there’s a comprehensive two-year unlimited mileage warranty covering the body and chassis – and none of the hassles surrounding Whole Vehicle Type Approval.”
IVECO has engaged some of the best bodybuilders in the industry to drive the success of its DriveAway range, with the expanded range of truck bodies being built by firms including Abba, Boughton, Boweld, Brit-Tipp, HIAB, Hyva, JC Payne, Johnston, Kel-berg and Paneltex.
All IVECO DriveAway truck models offer customers the advantage of being able to meet emissions standards with a single anti-emission system – IVECO’s HI-SCR technology. HI-SCR utilises passive regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) and means productivity for the fleet owner and driver is increased, as the system requires neither driver involvement nor downtime from active regeneration.
General haulage
The existing DriveAway range of 7.5-tonne Eurocargo rigids with box, dropside and curtainside bodies from JC Payne has been extended, with customers now able to buy 12-tonne boxes and curtainsiders on both the standard and low-height ‘120EL’ Eurocargo chassis, with and without a tail-lift. Brit-Tipp will also continue to provide tipper bodies at 7.5-tonnes.
IVECO is also introducing 18-tonne Eurocargo rigids with curtainside bodywork and tuckaway tail-lifts, on a chassis featuring a hi-roof sleeper cab for maximum driver comfort.
This is complemented by the addition of a 26-tonne Stralis with a choice of day cab or high-roof sleeper cab, and with a curtainside body and tuckaway tail-lift. This model makes best use of the versatile Stralis 6x2 rigid chassis to offer a 31ft-long body without the need for chassis extensions.
Temperature controlled
IVECO has teamed up with Paneltex and Carrier Transicold to offer DriveAway vehicles for the temperature controlled sector for the first time, with models available at 7.5, 12, 18 and 26-tonnes.
In this niche sector, the complexity of body configurations means Paneltex is pre-building bodywork for IVECO, but allowing the body to be customised to suit each customer’s specific application prior to mounting to the chassis. This will reduce the average new-build lead times from approximately 14 weeks to just three weeks, enabling the end-user to tailor features such as compartments and doors to its own preference.
For 18-tonne Eurocargo and 26-tonne Stralis vehicles, IVECO is offering Carrier Transicold’s new ICELAND TWINCOOL engineless refrigeration unit as standard – selected for its ability to run entirely on hydro-electric power generated by IVECO’s ultra-clean Euro VI engine. This removes the need for a separate diesel engine and lowers CO2 emissions, supporting IVECO’s position as a partner for sustainable transport.
Construction, demolition and waste
Other new new models in the DriveAway range include 18-tonne Eurocargo skip loaders from a choice of three different bodybuilder partners – Boughton, HIAB and Hyva – with the flexibility for additional customer-specified options to be added post-build.
IVECO has also introduced 32-tonne Trakker 8x4 chassis with hook loader bodies from Boughton and Hyva, plus tippers from Abba, Boweld and Kel-berg. Tipper grabs are also available, with Palfinger Epsilon cranes. Both the tippers and tipper grabs all feature steel bodies and are purpose-built for the demanding demolition and muckaway roles best-suited to the rugged heavy-duty Trakker chassis.
Completing the line-up is a 16-tonne left-hand drive Eurocargo road sweeper with Johnston bodywork, to reflect the significant potential IVECO sees within this market for a Euro VI medium truck which doesn’t require forced regeneration. The low-speed environment and frequent stop/start nature of sweeper work is a perfect match for IVECO’s HI-SCR technology, as well as for its 12-speed EuroTronic automated transmission.
